Kasubi Tombs
Kasubi tombs is located on Kasubi Hill just off Masiro Road. Four former Kings (Kabakas) were buried here. Done in traditional architecture, the round grass-thatched dome contains the tombs and power symbols of Kings. The dome, whose inside is skillfully adomed is also characterized by power insignia such as ancient drums, bark cloth, spears, shields and knives. Here you will also find the huge traditional reed and bark cloth building of the Kabakas king of the Buganda people. The Kasubi tombs are open every day including Sunday and holidays from 8 am to 6 p.m.

Nommo Gallery
This small building is Uganda's National Art Gallery where artwork by local artists as well from other parts of East Africa displayed. Exhibitions are advertised in the local press, but there is invariably something on display. There is also a shop attached with both artworks and crafts available. It was once a private house and is set in spacious grounds. It located in Kalolo on Victoria Ave, is open from 0900 to 1700 on weekdays, and from 0900 to 1500 on weekends.
Kabaka Mwanga's Lake
Located in Kampala, is a large lake excavated in the late 1880s on the whim of Kabaka Mwanga, who intended to link it with Lake Victoria.
Nyero Rock Paintings, Kumi
This is located around kumi district and the features are found are rock paintings, with some example of geometric work.
Numagabwe Cave, Mbale

Namugongo Martyrs' Shrine
Another important religious and historical site related to the Buganda kingdom is the Namugongo Martyrs' shrine, situated about 12 kilometers 7.5 miles north-east of Kampala off the Jinja Road. This is the impressive site where 22 Christian converts were excecuted on the orders of Kabaka Mwanga II in 1886. A steel domed structure carved in a traditional style stands at the scene. Artistic works depicting the scenes of this memorable Christian episode grace the interior walls of the house. In the centre, preserved in glass are some remains of one of the great martyrs: Kaloli Lwanga.
Getting there: Head out of the capital on the Jinja road. At the second main round about on Jinja Road, near contenary Park, there is a right turn to Port Bell, some five kilometer three miles away on the shores of Lake Victoria. Uganda Railways Cooperation uses the town as its base from which to operate the country's second route to the Indian Ocean by utilizing wagon ferries between port bell and the northern Tanzanian lake port of Mwanza, where traffic is connected by railway to the Indian Ocean port of Dar es Salaam.
To continue to the Shrine, return to the Jinja Road and head north -east, past the Uganda Management Institute on your left before you come to the huge Lugogo sports complex.
In 1996 Chinese contractors were busy constructing a US$ 28.6 million giant sports center and stadium at Ndamboole village a short distance behind Kireka trading center. The stadium has been named Mandela Stadium. Not far beyond the new Sports City center is the Namugongo Martyrs Shrine, on this sport more than 20 newly converted Uganda Christians were burnt alive by command of Kabaka Mwanga II, who had ordered them to renounce the white man's religion.
Uganda National Museum, Kampala
Located out of the town centre on the Kira Road. Open 0900 to 1700, and there is a small entrance fee. Most of the displays have been renovated and the rest are in the process of being restored. Many of the items were looted during 1970-86 and a big effort is being made to return the museum to its formal standard. Displays include a number of items from archaeological sites from around the country; a collection of musical instruments including many drums and a large and impressive canoe. Every so often the museum holds live traditional music afternoons.
